What makes our creative writing classes different?

Our classes are designed to support, stretch and inspire young writers to really boost their writing skills. Young writers are supported every step of the their writing journey with individual feedback and coaching as part of the group classes. We believe every young writer has a unique writer’s voice and that with the right guidance, support and motivation they can learn to write powerful stories which really bring their settings, characters and experiences to life!

Feedback: Our students receive personalised written feedback from their experienced teacher every week during the course. The feedback meets every student exactly where they are and gives them the tools to move forward.

One-to-one feedback meetings with the teacher make our creative writing program completely unique. Our students benefit from three individual coaching sessions (15 minutes) with every 6-7 week course. Students taking both creative 1 & 2 are entitled to 6 individual feedback appointments! These meetings are booked through our student study site and give the teacher the opportunity to work individually with the student on their personal writing goals.

Toolkits: We get great feedback from students and parents about our Learner's Toolkits! Every live class is supported by a Learner's Toolkit. This is a mini skill building work-book with vocabulary and language ideas inspired by real authors. Download an example Toolkit here.

How does the course work?

  • Live online (1 hour) interactive class each week with your teacher delivered through Zoom (max group size 12)

  • Each live interactive class will cover a new skill and set a motivating writing challenge to complete after class (10-20 minutes work time needed)

  • Students access and download an expert-designed skill building Toolkits from the study site for every class, along with extra optional Extension Challenges to stretch keen students, all of which can be downloaded and kept after the course to support future writing.

  • Students share their work on the shared writing platform after class. This gives students the chance to read and comment on their peer's stories. â€‹

  • Personal feedback and coaching is given to all students individually through written comments. Students also have the option to book live individual feedback sessions  with their  teacher. This is included in the course price.

  • At the end of the course students receive a personal certificate to celebrate their hard work and achievements! Parents can book a feedback meeting with the teacher to discuss their child's progress.

Want to discuss your child's writing goals or check the level is right for your child, get in touch and we will be happy to talk.

Your Questions Answered:

What if my child misses a live class?

All our classes are recorded and uploaded to the student's private study portal. The class videos will be available for students to watch for the duration of the course. Students missing a class are able to watch the recorded live video and still complete the writing task for feedback. Our experienced teacher gives every student individual written feedback each week.

How do I know if the level is right for my child?

Our classes are designed with extension challenges to stretch advanced writers and our live feedback meetings help to support developing writers. If you child is 10 years old and a developing writer, we would recommend our Little Writers classes. We would be happy to talk to you about your child's writing goals in a free writing assessment phone or Zoom call.

Who are our students?

We are happy to welcome a diverse range of students on our Creative Writing Adventures! Our students come from the UK and international schools around the world. We have students preparing to take the 11+, 13+ or other creative writing exams. We have students who need some extra writing confidence, as well as gifted writers looking to explore author's tools in more depth. We also have young writers who are just passionate about writing, who want to develop their writer's voice and learn to write brilliant stories!

What platforms do the classes run through?

One week before the course starts, parents are emailed a course link and password to access the Write Way Ahead study portal. Here you will find everything you need to participate in the class in 1 place: Toolkits to download, one click links to live Zoom classes, the shared writing board (Padlet) and the feedback booking calendar.
